Walk (176) Blue Cairn Stone Circle-Hill of Allamuc Circuit (Aberdeenshire)
This is a varied and very scenic walk through upland farmland and mature conifer forest onto the heathery slopes of the Hill of Allamuc, one of the rounded hilltops to the north-east of Morven, on the eastern boundary of the Cairngorms National Park. Particularly on the descent, there are marvellous views from on-high of the broad bowl of the Howe of Cromar, with its appealing patchwork of fields and woodland, protected by surrounding hills. At an early point on the ascent, in Balronald Wood, the route passes the βThe Blue Cairn of Ladieswellβ. Surrounding the Neolithic burial cairn are the diminished remains of a large recumbent stone circle β¦

Walk (175) Kemnay-Place of Origin-Kemnay Steens Circuit (Aberdeenshire)
Set amongst an expansive farming landscape by the River Don, the busy village of Kemnay is an attractive place, making this a very pleasant walk, with a more rural aspect than you might imagine. The walk starts with a short climb to the unusual and striking βPlace of Originβ viewpoint revealing the drama of the nearby flooded quarry, and with a panoramic perspective on the wider landscape of fields, woods and mountains, particularly the Bennachie range. The route passes six of the nine βKemnay Steensβ, with each of the distinctive and eye-catching modern sculptures relating to an aspect of the history of the area β¦
