Walk (181) Glen Rosa-Brodick Bay Circuit (Isle of Arran)
Due to its variety of scenery and dramatic mountains, the Isle of Arran is often described as “Scotland in miniature”. Equally, the diverse environments encountered on this special walk might qualify it to be described as “Arran in miniature”! This very enjoyable route takes in mature mixed woodland; a deep rocky gorge enclosed by giant rhododendrons, with rushing waterfalls; an atmospheric upland glen with open grassy moorland under steeply sloped mountains; an arresting view of Goatfell; a tumultuous highland river with cascading waters; abundant birdlife, with an opportunity to encounter some sheep and red deer; green and pleasant pasture; a golf course; a sweeping sandy beach; and, optionally, visits to the Arran Heritage Museum, and Brodick Castle, with its grand Victorian edifice, and its unique and exotic gardens … 😀

Walk (180) Clauchlands-Dun Fionn Circuit (Isle of Arran)
For its size, the Isle of Arran offers a wonderful variety of walks in different surroundings. This route provides a great little introduction to the island, with fantastic views, near and far. Although this is a short walk, there is a steady ascent in the mid-section to the site of an ancient hillfort at Dun Fionn. Here, two of the most iconic views in all of the Isle of Arran are achieved from one vantage point. On one side there is a breathtaking view towards Brodick Bay and the Goatfell range beyond, while on the other side there is a splendid vista towards the majestic and eye-catching Holy Isle, in Lamlash Bay … 😀

Walk (126) Keig-Turf Hill Circuit (Aberdeenshire)
We recently enjoyed a return visit to our Turf Hill walk, and have extended and modified the route to deal with a parking issue at the previous start/end point.

This is a varied hill walk, passing Castle Forbes at an early point, and with an impressive detour to the ancient Cothiemuir Stone Circle on the homeward section. The mid-part of the route is on a heather hillside with fantastic views in all directions, but particularly over the Howe of Alford. There is a leg-stretching ascent, passing abandoned grouse butts, to the delightful little larch wood at the summit of Turf Hill, one of the lower tops on the Bennachie range … 😀

Walk (179) Bellabeg-Bunzeach Forest-Lonach Hall Circuit (Aberdeenshire)
This is a varied walk, incorporating visits to two wonderful viewpoints, around and about the small village of Bellabeg in the scenic but remote area of Upper Donside known as Strathdon. Not long after leaving the village, a diversion onto a bluff overlooking Bellabeg provides not only a wonderful view over the settlement and Glen Nochty but also the opportunity to participate in the Cairngorms National Park “Scenic Photo-Posts” Project which aims to record changing landscapes over the seasons at a number of locations in the Park. Towards the end of our walk there is a diversion to a bench and viewpoint high above the village where there are great views of the Don Valley below you, and a panorama of surrounding hills and countryside … 😀
