Walk (183) Logie Coldstone-Wells of Poldhu-Auchnerran Circuit (Aberdeenshire)
This is a well-balanced circuit taking in a variety of natural environments. From the pretty little hamlet of Logie Coldstone, the route enters an extensive area of mature open pine forest. After passing a delightful small loch, the walk makes a short diversion to a charming woodland dell to visit ancient mineral springs at the Wells of Poldhu. A further section of mature pines is followed by a large birch wood. The next section is over wide grassy pasture-land. A gradual ascent onto the shoulder of Roar Hill then provides exhilarating views over the Howe of Cromar and its surrounding hilltops, before we descend again to the valley floor where the final section has wide-open views over productive farmland …

Walk (182) Turriff-Wrae Pond Circuit (Aberdeenshire)
This is a very pleasant rural walk to and from the farming town of Turriff, mostly surrounded by fields and woodland amongst the gentle rolling hills that characterise this part of the so-called “Buchan Plain”. Most of the route follows the former track of the Turriff – Macduff railway line. The turning point is at the very scenic Wrae Pond, set in a large hollow surrounded by trees and bushes. It is a delightful spot and has become a very well-established haven for wildlife …
