(201) Inverurie-East Aquhorthies Stone Circle Circuit (Aberdeenshire)

Route Summary
This short walk takes in a very special example of the ancient and mysterious recumbent stone circles that are unique to the North-East of Scotland. The views in all directions throughout the walk are outstanding, but especially towards the towering bulk and iconic shape of Bennachie’s Mither Tap.

Route Summary
A mostly gentle stroll in a varied rural landscape, with interesting historical and architectural highlights. The narrow path through trees, above the River Don, near the end of the route, requires moderate agility to navigate various ups and downs.

(197) Banchory-Scolty Hill Forest Road Circuit (Aberdeenshire)

Route Summary
This is a deservedly popular short walk through a mature woodland area, but with a moderately demanding 200 m overall ascent on the sometimes steep climb to the moorland and striking tower at the top of Scolty Hill where there are splendid wide-open views.

(186) Crathes Castle-Ley Wood-Coy Burn Circuit (Aberdeenshire)

Route Summary
An easy woodland walk with fairly gentle inclines. The route follows one of the permutations of the Red Squirrel Trail which links the Ley Wood Trail, the Coy Burn Trail, and the East Trail. There are some impressive carved wooden sculptures of woodland animals to appreciate along the way.

(180) Clauchlands-Dun Fionn Circuit (Isle of Arran)

Route Summary
A wonderfully scenic short walk, taking in coast and countryside, and incorporating two of the best views on the Isle of Arran, from the Iron Age hillfort at Dun Fionn overlooking the Clauchlands area of the island, between Brodick and Lamlash.

(178) Tomintoul Village-The Still Circuit (Moray)

Route Summary
A refreshing and undemanding little hike around and about the attractive Highland village of Tomintoul, on the roof of Moray. There are some interesting features along the way, and wonderful scenery to enjoy, throughout.

(177) Limekilns-Charlestown Circuit (Fife)

Route Summary
A gentle and attractive “coast and countryside” circular walk from the old pier at pretty Limekilns on the South Fife coast, overlooking the inner Forth Estuary. The focal point on the walk at the once busy, but now peaceful, harbour at Charlestown village, is the ruined remains of massive lime kilns, built into the cliff-side.

(172) Tarland-Muirton Wood-Sun Seat Circuit (Aberdeenshire)

Route Summary
An easy and pleasant ramble through mature woodland and open farmland to the impressive “Sun Seat” landmark where there are particularly fine views of the Howe of Cromar and surrounding mountains.

Route Summary
A short and relatively easy hill-walk in mixed countryside, near Tarland, to a low moorland hill-top where panoramic views can be enjoyed. There are 3 man-made commemorative stone features on the route that provide further interest and stimulation.

(168) Tarland-Drummy Wood-Tomnaverie-Tarland Way (Aberdeenshire)

Route Summary
This gentle excursion into the varied countryside around Tarland makes for an excellent introduction to the many walking opportunities in the area, with a paths network maintained with help from the MacRobert Trust. On the route, the visit to the Tomnaverie Stone Circle is unforgettable.

Route Summary
When visiting the attractive village of Braemar, this walk makes for a gentle introduction to the highland landscape of Upper Strathdee, with tantalising glimpses of the Cairngorms.

Route Summary
This walk visits a place of extraordinary beauty where the Quioch Water is forced through narrow channels in an otherwise peaceful spot amongst heather and tall pine trees. The complete route is only suitable for experienced walkers who are up for an “assault course” experience!

(138) Glenlivet-Drumin Castle Circuit (Moray)

Route Summary
This is an undemanding rural walk amongst the upland farms and rushing waters where the Rivers Livet and Avon meet. There are fine views and a castle ruin to inspect. Don’t be surprised if the air is lightly scented with the aroma of barley mash from nearby Glenlivet Distillery.

(122) Finzean Water Mills-Feughside Ramble (Aberdeenshire)

Route Summary
A short walk in a beautiful rural environment. Initially, there is a gradual ascent through open woodland, followed by a descent to the banks of the fast-flowing Water of Feugh. The water mills at the walk start/end are an interesting reminder of previous times in the valley.

(118) Lumphanan Rural Ramble (Aberdeenshire)

Route Summary
This is a short, easy walk with a modest overall ascent of 99 m. There are pleasing rural views throughout, and a good view over mid-Deeside towards distant mountains in the west from the viewpoint and bench at the mid-point on the route, overlooking the village of Lumphanan.
