(201) Inverurie-East Aquhorthies Stone Circle Circuit (Aberdeenshire)

Route Summary
This short walk takes in a very special example of the ancient and mysterious recumbent stone circles that are unique to the North-East of Scotland. The views in all directions throughout the walk are outstanding, but especially towards the towering bulk and iconic shape of Bennachie’s Mither Tap.

Route Summary
A mostly gentle stroll in a varied rural landscape, with interesting historical and architectural highlights. The narrow path through trees, above the River Don, near the end of the route, requires moderate agility to navigate various ups and downs.

(199) Inverurie-River Urie-The Bass-River Don Circuit (Aberdeenshire)

Route Summary
This easy, and surprisingly rural, walk provides a peaceful escape from the constantly busy comings and goings of Inverurie town centre. Historical interest from different periods is provided by the eye-catching Bass and Little Bass, the site of a Mediaeval motte and bailey castle, and an impressive set of carefully restored and preserved Pictish symbol stones.

(197) Banchory-Scolty Hill Forest Road Circuit (Aberdeenshire)

Route Summary
This is a deservedly popular short walk through a mature woodland area, but with a moderately demanding 200 m overall ascent on the sometimes steep climb to the moorland and striking tower at the top of Scolty Hill where there are splendid wide-open views.

(196) Culbin Forest-Hill 99-The Gut Circuit (Moray)

Route Summary
There are some interesting features, along the way, to break up this hike in a huge area of unique coastal pine forest. This is a very special protected natural environment, and attracts some rare birds and butterflies. After enjoying the views at the Hill 99 fire tower, the mid-section of the route passes alongside a large tidal area of mudflats and salt-marsh.

(195) Aboyne Stone Circle-Queen’s Hill-Aboyne Loch (Aberdeenshire)

Route Summary
Never far from popular Aboyne village, on Deeside, this attractive route takes in walking in pine and broad-leaf woodland, open parkland, and by the shores of the pretty Loch of Aboyne. The visit to the unusual Aboyne Stone Circle, an historical curiosity, adds an intriguing further element.

Route Summary
A gentle stroll that mixes town, and seaside, woodland and park, to create a hugely stimulating all-round experience. At every turn on the trail, history rubs shoulders with the natural environment in a uniquely pleasant and memorable way.

Route Summary
This is a very enjoyable circular route from the interesting and attractive Moray village of Cullen. The walk is undemanding, and provides an enjoyable combination of mixed woodland, scenic open countryside, expansive coastal views, and historical interest.

(191) Inver-Glen Feardar-Auchtaven Circuit (Aberdeenshire)

Route Summary
This is an interesting and rewarding hike in the scenic but de-populated landscape of upper Deeside. The walk is accessed from a lay-by on the busy A93 road between Crathie and Braemar but soon provides a sense of solitude and remoteness, on the way to the lonely “clachan” at Auchtaven.

(190) Cambus o’May-Tullich Kirk Circuit (Aberdeenshire)

Route Summary
A mostly easy walk with gentle inclines. The first half of the route is through mature conifer and birch forest, passing two peaceful and charming lochans. The second part is mostly on the flat ancient flood plain of the River Dee, on the Deeside Way track, and takes in some historical highlights.

(189) Portmahomack-Ballone Castle-Rockfield Circuit (Highland)

Route Summary
This unusual circular coastal walk across the Tarbat Ness peninsula, enjoys wonderful views of both the Dornoch Firth and the Moray Firth. There are two pretty coastal villages to explore, and a fine restored 16thC cliff-top castle to admire on the route.

(188) Cabrach-Blackwater Lodge Return (Moray)

Route Summary
Although a little longer than our usual 10 km limit, this route offers a rewarding exploration of the Cabrach, once a busy focus of upland agriculture (and illicit whisky distilling), with a population of over 1,000, now reduced to less than a tenth of that number. The special natural environment, culture and heritage of the area is now promoted and developed by the Cabrach Trust.

(187) Burghead-Cummingston-Clarkly Hill Circuit (Moray)

Route Summary
Open views and points of interest characterise this varied coastal walk which, alongside the expected seaside walking, features an impressive and historically interesting headland. Although of very modest height, Clarkly Hill, above Cummingston, provides a gentle ascent and great views. The final section provides a taste of coastal pine forest, and an expansive sandy beach at Burghead Bay.

(186) Crathes Castle-Ley Wood-Coy Burn Circuit (Aberdeenshire)

Route Summary
An easy woodland walk with fairly gentle inclines. The route follows one of the permutations of the Red Squirrel Trail which links the Ley Wood Trail, the Coy Burn Trail, and the East Trail. There are some impressive carved wooden sculptures of woodland animals to appreciate along the way.
