This is an interesting countryside walk in beautiful surroundings. The route is mostly on well-maintained grassy paths and minor roads, with only gentle ascents and descents. There are points of local interest along the way, notably the ancient stone circle at Tomnaverie.

In clear weather there are so many temptations on this walk to stop and take in the fantastic views of the Howe of Cromar countryside and surrounding hills with a breath-taking wider mountain backdrop. The overall ascent and distance are achieved in a pleasing and gradual way.

The walk, in a figure of 8 loop, at first encircles the pretty Tarland golf course before setting out for the evocative Tomnaverie stone circle, where the panoramic views are even more breath-taking. The return leg, through a large mature woodland makes for very pleasant walking.
