Some road walking doesn’t detract from this attractive and varied circuit in central Buchan that links some recently made paths to visit the memorable Aikey Brae Stone Circle. The route is peppered with historical interest and open rural views.

This is a relatively easy walk, with a gradual ascent into the countryside overlooking Rosehearty. Before heading inland, the route kicks off at the old harbour and samples a section of the coastal path. There are interesting visits to historical sites along the way.

Walking from the village of Strichen to a huge “white horse” laid out in stone on the hillside above the settlement. After checking out the ruin of an 18th C hunting lodge higher up the hillside, there are breath-taking long-distance views from the summit of Waughton Hill.
